Ranelagh Avenue – Private House, Barnes
A private residence for a high-profile media couple and their two children. The design retained the traditional house plan in the main house with its formal sitting and dining rooms, stepping down at the rear into a more informal and day-lit family living area extending to the garden beyond. The choice of simple contemporary materials and stripped back details allowed the extension, radically different in form to the existing house, to compliment rather than contradict the original building. The glazed bay slides away completely in summer to allow the extension of living space into the garden
